The words of the Angel of Portugal, who appeared to the children three times the year before Our Lady appeared, of the Fatima Message, too, are also an important part of the Fatima Message. The apparition is believed to have appeared at the town of FatimaPortugal on the thirteenth day of six consecutive months instarting on May On May 13,Lucia and her two cousins, Jacinta and Francisco Marto, were herding sheep at a location known as Cova da Iria, near their hometown village, Fatima. A further appearance of the Virgin Mary wre reported to be on the thirteenth day of the month in June and July. In these, the Virgin Mary asked the children to do acts of penance and Acts of Reparation as well as personal sacrifice to save sinners.
They later said they were visited three times by an apparition of an angel. They said the angel, who identified himself as the " Angel of Peace " and " Guardian Angel of Portugal ", taught them prayers, to make sacrifices, and to spend time in adoration of the Lord. Beginning in the spring ofthe children reported apparitions of an Angel, and starting in Mayapparitions of the Virgin Marywhom the children described as "the Lady more brilliant than the Sun".
The oldest girl, Lucia, was the only one to speak to her, and Mary told the children that she would reappear to them on the thirteenth day of the next six months. She then vanished. The children soon told their parents, and while some in the village didn't believe their tale, others did — and told more people.
